De TF42-B thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn kostenefficiënte elektromechanische beveiligingsapparaten voor de hoofdcircuits, conform de nieuwste normen voor rollend spoorwegmaterieel en geschikt voor installatie in passagiers- of bestuurderscabines van treinen die vaak in tunnels of ondergronds rijden. Ze bieden betrouwbare motorbeveiliging bij overbelasting of fase-uitval. De apparaten hebben uitschakelklasse 10. De thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn driepolige relais met bimetale uitschakelelementen. De motorstroom loopt door de bimetale uitschakelelementen en verwarmt deze direct en indirect. Bij overbelasting (overstroom) buigen de bimetalelementen door de verhitting.
