De TF42-B thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn kostenefficiënte elektromechanische beveiligingsapparaten voor de hoofdkring. Ze voldoen aan de nieuwste normen voor spoorwegmaterieel en zijn geschikt voor installatie in passagiers- of bestuurderscabines van treinen die vaak in tunnels of ondergronds rijden. Ze bieden betrouwbare motorbeveiliging bij overbelasting of fase-uitval. De apparaten hebben uitschakelklasse 10. De thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn driepolige relais met bimetaal-uitlaselementen. De motorstroom loopt door de bimetaal-elementen en verwarmt deze direct en indirect. Bij overbelasting (overstroom) buigen de bimetaal-elementen door de verwarming.
