De TF42-B thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn economische elektromechanische beveiligingsapparaten voor de hoofdkring, in overeenstemming met de nieuwste normen voor spoorwegmaterieel en geschikt voor installatie in reizigers- of machinistencabines van treinen die frequent in tunnels of ondergronds rijden. Ze bieden betrouwbare motorbeveiliging bij overbelasting of fase-uitval. De apparaten hebben uitschakelklasse 10. De thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn driepolige relais met bimetalen uitschakelelementen. De motorstroom loopt door de bimetalen uitschakelelementen en verwarmt ze direct en indirect. Bij overbelasting (overstroom) buigen de bimetalen elementen door de verwarming.
