De TF42-B thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn kosteneffectieve, elektromechanische beveiligingsapparaten voor de hoofdkring. Ze voldoen aan de nieuwste normen voor spoorwegmaterieel en zijn geschikt voor installatie in passagiers- of machinistencabines van treinen die frequent in tunnels of ondergronds rijden. Ze bieden betrouwbare motorbeveiliging bij overbelasting of fase-uitval. De apparaten hebben uitschakelklasse 10. De thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn driepolige relais met bimetaal-uitschakeling. De motorstroom loopt door de bimetaalelementen en verwarmt deze direct en indirect. Bij overbelasting (overstroom) buigen de bimetaalelementen door de verwarming.
