De TF42-B thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn kostenefficiënte elektromechanische beveiligingsapparaten voor het hoofdcircuit, conform de nieuwste normen voor spoorwegmaterieel en geschikt voor installatie in passagiers- of bestuurderscabines van treinen die frequent in tunnels of ondergronds rijden. Ze bieden betrouwbare bescherming van motoren bij overbelasting of fase-uitval. De apparaten hebben uitschakelklasse 10. De thermische overbelastingsrelais zijn driepolige relais met bimetalen trips. De motorstroom loopt door de bimetalen en verwarmt deze direct en indirect. Bij overbelasting (overstroom) buigen de bimetalen door de verwarming.
